This sounds like a very good idea. With the rising popularity of RSS something has to be done to optimize the aging delivery system...

Although it will mean one thing for content publishers: no more direct metrics (access-log) on feed popularity. But then, those metrics are flawed anyways: Just because someone (or something) fetches your feed, no one said it would also be read. We'll need to find other metrics for that anyway.
