Kathryn Cramer: Dramatica: The Strangeness, Charm, & Spin of Character
What the creators of this strange program really seem to want is AI technology. But lacking that, they have tried to hack their way around this absence, creating abstract ways of talking about how characters interact that a less that fully sentient computer can manipulate.
I have been aware of Dramatica for a long time now, and I virtually ate anything they put online about their story-theory (almost a complete book). Although I must admit I never really put that knowledge to any practical use.
Very nice to see someone write about actual use of such a tool...Also very valuable are the comments to that post!
But today I am very glad I didn't buy into such a tool. I very much enjoy the freedom tools like Tinderbox... Give me it's freeform note database and some good similar entries]
