Traumwind - streching too thin...

It is a common 'wisdom' among freelance people that one should 'take what you can get' job wise... Take any project you can squeeze into your shedule sideways, you don't know when there will be another, and if you need to hire people to do it...

Well, I don't thinks so. In my case taking on further projects has messed up my shedule royally. And what's worse: I'm effectively less productive with more projects thann with less... the cost of switching, and the management overhead all add up to an almost zero output currently...

Things is, I have one major project that could take up 60% of my resources. But I'm putting that back to handle other, more short term things. But those only give me about 10-20% income and only for a short time. Still they stop me from doing quality work for the main project... So by doing more, I actually achieve far less (and also earn less)

So now I'm going over to a pick-and-choose tactic. I'm not totally in a position to pick, but if I don't my main customer gets lower quality, so I will be in an even worse situation to choose in the future.

It has to do with selling oneself for the right price. Being availeable for anything that comes makes an commodity out of you. Being scarce but with high quality and relieability raises your (percieved) value, at least for those you work with.
