I believe it's intuitive----a core function of the human mind----to give sensory information a weight-factor as it is being processed/received (i.e., spouse talking while world series game is on, strange noise inside house in middle of night, etc.). And if it's a distinct and integral part of how we as humans process and organize information in the real world, then shouldn't 'weighting' be part of any system we use to log our thoughts and commentary about our life experiences?
