Has read Emma Bull's 1987 War for the Oaks, and goes to compare faeries/immortals and humans/mortals to Europeans and Americans... Also intersting is his listing of 'related books' at the end:

I'd never have connected 'Pattern Recognition' and 'War for the Oaks' although I read them very close to each other and absolutly loved both...
