spatial hypertext in sub-optimal viewing situations
(Monday 19th January 2004)

Mark Bernstein responds to my rant about visualisation on small screens...
Well, I guess I hit the wrong associations with my mention of PDAs. I guess I really don't *want* to use spatial hypertext tools on a small screen, at least not that kind of small screen.
What if was rather aiming at was the wish to optimize the use of screen estate for such a tool. If ypi have ever squinted at any modest sized flow-cart projected by a daylight projector you might see what I mean.
So what I guess I'm trying to find is a 'best-practices' kind of thing for optimizing visibility of visual vocabularies... Maybe such easy things like 'use 2px outlines / edges instead of 1px', 'use reasonably large fonts'... Some presentations are just better vieable under sub-optimal conditions than ithers...

But as Mark B. says somewhere on the Tinderbox Wiki; a compelling mock-up might be all that's needed... So I guess the ball is in my half for this one.
