Dylan is a high-level dynamic object-oriented programming language with a very exciting future. It was originally designed by Apple Computer, with input from industry and academic partners, as a way to greatly enhance programmer productivity and reduce software time-to-market. It fills the void between Java and C++ and beats each of them at its own game. Dylan doesn't make you choose: it provides ease of use and large-scale programming, interactivity and native compilation, clean powerful maintainable software and high efficiency.
Functional Objects, Inc.
The Functional Developer product family is a sophisticated dynamic object-oriented software development environment based on the Dylan programming language. Ok, short-term fazit after playing around with the demo projects for some time. I'm pretty sure this can completely replace VisualBasic in most aspects. For me there is only one little nag: distribution of compiled applications. The compiled exe files are rather nice'n'small. But the do need runtime-dlls... round about 1.3 MB of dlls for a GUI app with everything... less than for VB, but still... I'd prefer completely stand-alone exes ala Delphi... can't have all I guess.
